Hello Canto Community,
The Canto forum was established for the restoration of open governance and participation within the Canto ecosystem.
Everyone should feel welcome to be a part of Canto’s future and to participate in the creation of proposals, discussion of those proposals, voting, and implementation. These are the core ethos of blockchain communities.
To this end, the Canto community recently voted for a 5 day voting period, with a 2 day emergency voting period if needed. The deposit amount was also updated to 100k $CANTO for the 5 day proposal and 1M $CANTO for the 2 day proposal, in alignment with the current Canto price. Both the governance period and the deposit amount are parameters that are changed and maintained through governance.
This allows for the establishment of governance norms within Canto. I would invite the Canto community to consider the adoption of the following procedure for dialog and voting.
-
Introduction of an idea for discussion introduced into the Canto forum ahead of proposals to vote, with enough time for community members to respond. Cross posted links in Discord help with transparency and engagement and are encouraged. Validators are encouraged to participate in discussions and dialog, as maintainers of the chain.
-
Anyone can participate in depositing and adding proposals on chain. Good proposals are transparent and clear, and are used to edit parameters, not just signal thoughts. Proposals should be shared with the validator and development community for vetting prior to deposit period.
-
Transparency is encouraged, with discussion about the outcome welcome in forum, for more formal dialog and discord for informal discussions. To encourage productive dialog, a standard set of guidelines can be adapted from others, like the Linux Foundation: Contributor Covenant:.
Governance is a living thing, all stakeholders are part of a vision ahead, which will adapt and evolve as Canto grows.
